I found this weeks focus on storytelling through data to be really interesting, as when I first wrote my integration paper I was confused by what the author, Gries, meant by ‘…designing visual artifacts to help collect, analyze, and visualize research findings’. After completing this weeks design activity I was able to understand the positives associated with visuals in data collecting. In a mundane day, I gathered information, analyzed it, and configured it into a visual design element. Without this last step, I don’t believe I could have affectively relayed my day, and consequently the data, to another user. Drawing allowed myself to remember through this pen to paper act. These graphics created mean so much more than just the numbers, they encompass a feeling throughout a day. The short time span allotted during this activity also pushed for concise and affective images to be produced.
