The eight of us woke up Friday morning for an early flight to Cape Town to enjoy the bustling city life before getting on a late flight back to Johannesburg on Sunday. The quick weekend trip reminded me of my time in Europe and was a pleasant and comforting feeling. Overall, Cape Town was a nice getaway to see another area of South Africa, but I was happy to get back to Joburg.

Here are some fun things I did while in the Cape!

V&A Waterfront

Our airbnb was situated fairly close to the V&A, which reminded me a lot of the Baltimore harbor. There were a lot of cool spaces filled with shops and cafes all surrounding the water. We went here each day to explore some more of the area. On Sunday we rode the Ferris Wheel before our flight since the finicky Cape Town weather closed the cable car to Table Mountain and we needed one last good view!

Lions Head

Many people and websites told me this hike was ‘easy’ and better to do than Table Mountain, simply not true, but by far one of my greatest highlights of this month as a whole. The trail started off pretty self explanatory and was a gentle incline, but quickly turned into scaling the mountain. Four of us did make it to the top to see the fog cover the view, but we were greeted with a rainbow and an accomplished feeling none the less! On the way down we timed it just right to see the sun set as we finished a little over two hours later.

Biking wine tour

On Saturday we headed to a biking wine tour at Stellenbosch vineyards. We expected to ride around the property on some cruiser bikes, but were poorly mistaken. Instead we went mountain biking with too many hills to count. We asked our guide if he has ever stopped as much as we did before each incline to brace ourselves. He said never…Still tasted some great wine and got another workout in!

Botanical gardens

Sunday we headed to the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens which is a really beautiful place close to Table Mountain, with a lot of different trails to go down. It was bit more rainy and dreary on this day so the cover by all of the foliage worked out really well.

Bo-Kaap

We stopped by the Bo-Kaap area to see the pretty colorful houses and walk around the eclectic area a bit to end off our time in Cape Town!
